"The inanimate toy repeats the still life’s theme of arrested life, the life of the tableau. But once the toy becomes animated, it initiates another world, the world of the daydream.” - Susan Stewart On Longing
In this workshop participants will use text and mixed media to create performance-based objects in the miniature that can come to life with the presence of the performer.
These objects will be designed to each participant and will result in short tableaus that will be performed for the camera and viewed as large projections.

Drawing on concepts of camp, authenticity in its incongruous form and the representation of literal, we will try on performance as practice with particular attention given to the container (frame or context) as host to objects and actions. We will find ways of sensing the simultaneity of the sacred and the profane (as well as sit in questions relating to what these are) by getting into different levels of performativity and strategies of intensification: we will look for ways to create the sensation of apparition as well as lean into apparition as both mystical and a tool/skill to be learnt.
